The purpose of this tutorial is to help you familiarize yourself with the Zmerge tool in PI7.  You can "dress" this up to your liking.

Making The Bowl and Handles

Open a new image 300 X 300 pixels.

Using the Path Drawing Tool path drawing tool, Color Light Blue color Shape Circle, Mode 3D Round, draw a circle approximately 140 x 140.  In the Path Panel pop up box, in the 3D Tab, put the Border at 33 and Depth at 22.  Move this object to the bottom third of your canvas.

Using the Path Drawing Tool again with the same color and using the shape Ellipse, draw an elongated small elliptical shape, approximately 47 x 90.  Change this to 3D Pipe Mode. Place it to the right of your original circle.  This will be one of your handles.  In the Path Panel Box, change the border to 6.  Holding the control key down, drag this ellipse to create a duplicate and move it to the left side of your circle.  Align them evenly.  (see example below).

Select both "handles" and the circle.  Click on the Zmerge Tool in the Toolbar.  zmerge tool   In the Attribute Toolbar, check the Zmerge box.  Deselect all objects by clicking on a blank space on the canvas.  Click on one of the handles and put 10 in the Z-Elevation box.  Repeat this with the other handle.  Using the Z Elevation is where you can set the level of the merge you want.  Move both handles in closer to the circle until it looks like the picture shown below.

Making Lid and Bottom

Click on the Path Drawing Tool, and choose Ellipse.  Make a small elliptical lid for the bowl, approximately 82 x 19.  Change the border to 10, depth 30.   With the lid still selected, click on the Z-Merge tool.  Check the Z-Merge box and set the Z-Elevation to 10.  Move the lid into place.

Duplicate the top lid and place it on the bottom of the sugar bowl.  The duplicate object is already Zmerged with the same settings as the top lid.

You can use different colors, materials and designs to dress up your sugar bowl.
