| You can achieve quick and easy sketches using
the Color Sketch Task with Quick Command. The sketch above is of our granddaughter,
Alaytra. * This tutorial is intended to give you a general idea of
how to do the above. You will get different results depending upon the photographs
or clipart you use. This was written to give a pencil sketched effect.
For this tutorial, you'll
need to go to Ulead
and download the Color Sketching Effect with Quick Command which is offered under Free
Goodies. Follow the directions given on Ulead's site to import this into your Quick
Command Panel.

Go to Effect, Special,
Monochrome to change the picture to black and white. (PI 8 users, go to
Effect/Artistic/Monochrome). Hit Control C to save a copy of the black and white
image to your clipboard.

Click
on the Quick Command Panel, Task Tab, and select from the dropdown menu Color
Sketch.

Click on the arrow and you
should get the result shown below.

Hit Control V and the
black and white copy of this will lay directly over this image. While the copy is
active, right click, go to Properties. From the Merge dropdown menu, click on Hue
& Saturation. Your image should look like the one shown below.

Right click and Merge
All. Click on the Color Sketch Task once more in your Quick Command Panel.
Your image will look like the sepia one above. Hit the undo arrow twice. Hit
Control V once more to place the black and white image over this. While the image is
active, right click, go to Properties and set the transparency to 80%. Right click
and Merge All. Your image will look like the one shown below.

Using the Brightness and Contrast buttons, play until you get the desired effect
for your sketch.

Frame your sketch or print
it out to surprise someone.
* The
results of this particular technique depend on the pictures you are using. You can
undo some of the quick commands to achieve the desired results. This tutorial is
just to give you a general idea of how to achieve a sketched look. You may find the
perfect sketch after running the color sketch task once and undoing one or two
tasks. Play, futz, and enjoy!
