| You'll need the texturizer plugin for this
tutorial which can be found in your Photoshop plugins folder. To learn how to import
plug ins, click here.
Open up an image that is
filled with a fine patterns such as the one below. You can use this image if you
like.

The trick is to find a
"busy" area that will make a nice pattern for your tile.
Click on the standard
selection tool, Shape: Rectangle.

Make a small
rectangle. While the selection is active, place your mouse over it and while holding
down the left click on your mouse, drag it out of the picture. It will appear
in it's own work area.

Right click and Merge
All.
Go to Effect, Blur and
Sharpen, Sharpen. Click on the amount of sharpness you want as this will define
your pattern more in your textured tile.

I initially sharpened the
image in the third top box shown above but wanted more detail. I repeated the step
which resulted in the tile above. Save this as this will be your
"pattern". Go to File, Save As. From the drop down menu, click on
.psd and name this pattern. Make sure the Invoke Dialog Box is checked. A PSD
Save Options Box will pop up. Make sure Click Compression is checked and then hit
ok.
Open up a new image,
100x100. Fill with the bucket fill tool with the color of your choice.

Go to Effects, Texture,
Texturizer. Here is where you will use the patterned .psd file you just made.
On the drop down menu click on Load Texture and find where you saved your .psd file.
Click ok and you'll be able to preview the texture in the texturizer box. You can
vary the settings of the scaling, relief and light direction to get the effect you
want. I got the effect I was looking for with the values in the box below.

Click OK and you now
have a fancy patterned textured tile.

I hope you've enjoyed this
tutorial.
