350x350 pixels.
Click on the Path Drawing Tool, choose the rectangle shape, color black and 3D Round Mode.
Draw a rectangle approximately the size of the one shown below (271, 104). Move the
rectangle to the bottom of your work area. This will be the front of your box.

Now it doesn't look
"rounded" yet. Up on the toolbar, click on Light and place your mouse to the
right side of the rectangle until you get the light as shown here. (If using PI 7,
the light tool is located on the Path Panel Box).

While the rectangle is
still active, right click and duplicate it. Place it just above your first rectangle as
this will be the top of your jewelry box.

Click on your transform
tool, choose Perspective and move the top of the rectangle slightly inward. Then click on
resize and size the top rectangle as shown here.

Now we're going to make
the gold edges for your jewelry box.
Select the top rectangle. Right click and duplicate. Click on the path tool, mode 3D Pipe.
Set the border to 6 and the depth to 10. Click on the Easy Palette, go to Material
Gallery, Mettalic and click on Copper 1 (if using PI 7 choose Copper 5 from Material
Attribute Gallery).

Move this to the base of
your box. While it's selected, right click, Arrange, Move to Back. Position the gold
border so it is even on either side.

While this border is still
selected, right click and duplicate. Bring it up to your top rectangle. Hit the spacebar
to deselect. Select the top black rectangle, right click, Arrange and Bring to Front.

Decorating Your Jewelry Box
You can use any picture you like. I happen to love
preraphaelite paintings. So I used the picture shown here. You're welcome to use this
image.

Copy and paste this onto
your jewelry box front. You'll have to size it as shown below. The picture will also need
sharpening. Go to effect, Blur and Sharpen, Sharpen and sharpen it using the first box.

For the fancy scrolled
effects, go to the Path Tool, Shape: Custom and click on Decoration 5, 3D round, and use
the same Copper 1 (for version 7 Copper 5) in the Materials Gallery. Make it approximately
the size shown here.

While this is selected, go
to Edit, Rotate and Flip, Rotate, Rotate Left 90 degrees. Right click on this while active
and duplicate 4 of these. Select all 5 decorations with your mouse while holding the shift
key. Right click, Align, and click bottom. While they are all still selected, right click
again, align, and click space evenly, horizontally. Right click again and group. Right
click one more time and duplicate. Drag these down to border the top and bottom of the
picture.
Make another decoration 5 approximately the same as the size shown here to go on the sides
of the picture.

Right click and duplicate
two more of these. Holding the shift key, click on all three, right click, align, center
horizontally, space evenly, vertically. Then group. Right click and duplicate this group.
Then place on either side of your picture.

Holding down the shift
key, click on the main picture, and all four borders. Right click and merge as single
object. Right click and duplicate. Bring this up to the top of your jewelry box.

Using the transform tool,
click on Perspective and slant inwards slightly and resize it down to fit on the top of
your lid. Go to Effects, Blur and Sharpen, and sharpen this image using the first box.
Your jewelry box should look like this.

Let's make some legs.
Go to the path tool, rectangle, 3D Round, Border 5, Depth 10. Copper 1 in Material
Gallery (v 7 Copper 5). Make a rectangle the size shown here. To make this texture,
go to the Material Gallery, Bump, Paper 3 (in v 7 use any bump to get a desired effect).

Click on the Transform
tool, Distort and move the right bottom corner towards your left until you get the shape
shown here.

Now that you've made a
left leg you'll need to make the right. Right click and duplicate. While it's still
selected go to Edit, Rotate and Flip, Flip Horizontally. Place the second leg on the left
side of the box. Holding down your shift key, click on both legs, right click, align,
bottom. While still selected right click, click arrange, and send to back. Lift the legs
up under the bottom of the box just a bit.
For the finishing touches I added dingbats to the corners of the box. I also wanted
a lighter look to the gold border. Click on the bottom border to select it and then
click on the Path Tool. Click on Light and move your mouse until you get the desired
lighting effect. Do this on your top border of the lid.

Now you have your
lacquered jewelry box. You can try this using different colors, dingbats, pictures.
Customize it to what you'd like to have sitting on your dresser.
I hope you've enjoyed this
tutorial.
