This tutorial is for the intermediate user who
is familiar with the tools in PhotoImpact 6. You will need the Cybia Screenworks filter and Flames from
the Sparks and Flames Tube from Hoods Tubes.
The Background
Open a new image 300 x 300
pixels.
Go to the Easy
Palette. In the Fill Gallery, using Magic Texture MT092, double click to fill
the blank canvas. Go to Effect, Magic, Light and click on the box in the top row,
last box to the right.. Using the Path Tool, Shape: rectangle, Color: #26281C,

as your floor. Right click and Merge All.

The Coffin
With the Path Drawing
Tool, Shape: rectangle, Color: black, Mode: 3D Round, create a rectangle approximately
236x66. Up on the toolbar, click on Light and place your mouse to the right side of
the rectangle until you get the light as shown here.

Move the rectangle to the
bottom of your background canvas. This will be the front bottom part of the coffin.
While the rectangle is still active, right click and duplicate it. Place it directly above
your first rectangle.
With the Transform Tool,
choose Perspective and move the top of the rectangle slightly inward. Using Resize,
decrease the height to 42. Make two duplicates of this top rectangle and drag it off
your canvas for use later on. Your coffin should start to look like the image shown
below.

Duplicate the top
rectangle once more and change the color to red. Reduce the border size to 16.
Using the Light Tool again, place your mouse this time to the left side. With the
Transform Tool, click on Resize and make this just a bit smaller and place directly over
the top showing a little bit of black border around it.
While the red rectangle is
active, go to Effect, Screenworks and apply Light Gauze. This is the bottom half of
the coffin.

(reduced 50%)
Drag in one of the black
rectangles you put aside. Go to Edit, Rotate & Flip and Rotate 180 degrees.
Place it above the bottom half of the coffin as this will be the top lid. Using the
Resize Tool, increase the height to 68. Position this as shown below.

(reduced 50%)
Duplicate this rectangle
and change the color to red. Reduce the border size to 16. Using the Light Tool,
place your mouse to the left side again. Use the Transform Tool to resize it as you
did for the bottom half, with it showing a little bit of black border around it.
Apply Screenworks Light Gauze. Select the red and black top rectangles and Merge as
a Single Object. Your image should look like the one shown below.

(actual size)
Using the Path Tool,
Shape: rounded rectangle, Color: white, Mode: 3D Round, draw a small rounded rectangle as
shown below. You may need to use the Light Tool to adjust the lighting and increase
Border to the maximum. Duplicate this three times. Align them as shown
below, rotating the last one clockwise 30 degrees. Select the first three
"fingers" and the front bottom rectangle, right click, Arrange, Bring to
Front. The thumb should now be behind the front of the coffin. Bring it down a
bit. See the images below.

Using the Path Drawing
Tool, Shape: rounded rectangle, Mode: 3D Round, draw a long thin pole approximately
9x88. Slide the Border to the maximum. Go to the Easy Palette, Material
Gallery, Texture, and fill it with Stone 1. Rotate it 30 degrees
counterclockwise and move it to the right side of your canvas and shown below.

(actual size)
Add a flame to the pole
and you've got a Halloween coffin. To animate this as shown above, continue on to
Part II.
